Furree Katt, I Love You

And I'll always love you.

Are you casting asparagus on my cooking?

Arrr! So I went back to THE KITCHEN yesterday to make iftar. This time both my ma and sister were not home.

*all the ants of the house gives a standing ovation for the mess I make for them*

I made pakoray, sandwiches, French fries, fruit chaat and juices!

Pakoray: Ma made the batter, all I had to do was dip potato slices and onion rings in it and  fry them :)

1. Take K&N's chicken breast fillet and slice them into thin strips.
3. Boil them
2. Make your chicken covering
...a. take some mayonnaise in a bowl
...b. add pepper, salt and oregano
...c. slice some green chilli and add it
...d. add red chilli powder
...e. add cream cheese
3. Dip your chicken strips in the batter
4. (Optional) boil an egg, cut it into small pieces and add it in the batter
5. Heat your non-stick pan and pour a little bit of olive oil in it
6. Put all your chicken strips in the pan together and add all the remaining batter on top of them
7. Fry it all for 4 - 5 minutes
8. Spread them on bread
9. Put another piece of bread on top
10. EAT IT!

p.s. my personal recipe!

French Fries: Everyone knows how to make French fries! I'll just tell y'all a bunch of interesting stuff about them

Potatoes were originally being fried by at least 1680 in the Meuse Valley of Belgium. Locals would eat small fish with their meals, but when the river was frozen over, they cut potatoes lengthwise and fried them in oil to use as a substitute. Ergo they should be called Belgian Fries!
Lengthwise-cut-fried-potatoes were introduced to the U.S. when Thomas Jefferson served them in the White House during his Presidency of 1801 - 1809
One of the early references to 'French fried potatoes' was in 1894 in O. Henry's 'Rolling Stones': "Our countries are great friends. We have given you Lafayette and French fried potatoes."
French fries are not called "French fries" in France. They are known as 'poninws frites' (fried potatoes). And the potato itself is known as the ponone de terre, or 'earth apple'

Fruit Chaat: Furree Katt told me to cut apples, bananas, guavas and grapes and mix them together in a bowl. She also told me to add pepper and squeeze some lemon it. I just added some orange juice to it and om nom nom nom!

1. New 'Pineapple and Orange' Tang
2. Mixture of Grape and Strawberry Tang with lemon squeezed in it

Did you know that the banana 'tree' is actually not a tree but a giant herb with banana being a fruit of this herb? And that the bunch of bananas sold in the market is actually known as a 'hand' and each banana in it is called a 'finger'?
Did you know that there are over 8000 varieties of grapes worldwide? Also, that they are a laxative if you eat too many?
Did you know that strawberry is not a  fruit but that it is a receptacle? And that if they are consumed in right proportion they can fill in almost 20% of human body's daily folic acid requirement and 140% of Vitamin C?
Did you know that a pineapple is ripe when one of its top leaves can easily be pulled out? And that one cup of pineapple has about 135 calories and 33% of the RDA of Vitamin C?
Did you know that orange is a type of berry, hesperidia to be exact? Also, that the bigger the navel in the orange, the sweeter it is?
Did you know that quercetin is found only in the apple skin and that it has more antioxidants and fiber than the flesh? And that there are more than 7500 varieties of apples grown in the world?
Did you know that guava seed range between 100 and 500 per fruit? Also that it produces toxic chemicals in its leaves that prevents the growth of other plants?

David Tudor said, "Performance is very much like cooking: putting it all together, raising the temperature."

If music be the food of love, play on

After two weeks of trying to add a playlist here, without taking any help from anyone, I finally succeeded!

*evil laugh*

I have added a number of my favourite songs, I doubt any of you would share the same music taste as I do but it will make me THIS happy *spreads arms wide open* if anyone does.

Also, you can suggest me songs which you want me to add in my playlist, I shall not niraash disappoint you, for I will add all the songs that you will suggest, unless it is by Ladygaga, Britney or someone like that.

Four months from now, about the same time, I found life.

Blogger Meet-up - Karachi

We've been planning a blogger meet-up for quite some time now and here is the final plan
*claps and cheers*

We are meeting on September 10th at The Second Floor and this meet-up is held under PeaceNiche, people who run The Second Floor (T2F). We are to gather there at 6:00 pm sharp. We can also eat and drink over there while we talk, they have this nice little kitchen where they make delicious food for our tummies. At 7:30 pm my band, Quasars, is performing over there, so we'll listen to them then.

For any further details e-mail me at russian.gumberoo@gmail.com

Hope to see a good response

In the summer of 2002 I started reading a lot of poetry. One of those struck me in my head and helped me through many a tough times, helped me achieve many things. A taut and liberating piece of writing. It became a source of inspiration, it motivated me. I wrote about my life here, here and over here. These posts don't tell everything about me but they would give you a good idea about me. Most of you might be thinking "how can a poetry do that?" but let me tell you that simple words have amazing strength in them. We read so many 'inspirational' things here and there but how many of us think about them? How many of us implement those 'suggestions' in our life? A month after I read this poem our school re-opened and we had this Independence Day Function. By then I had never actively taken part in anything that was on stage and one of my teachers asked me to take up the role of Ranger in the Little Red Riding Hood play my class was doing. I told my teacher that I will get my parents' permission first and will let her know then. I remember coming home and reading that poem and it took me an hour or so of reading it again and again before I could let go of my stage-fright. I said yes to my teacher next day and when we did that play we even got the 'Best Performance' award, the whole cast got it. That day onwards this poem has helped me find motivation to do a lot of things.

Here it is:

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Invictus - William Ernest Henley (1875)

And here is a short note about the author:
At the age of 12, Henley fell victim to tuberculosis of the bone. A few years later, the disease progressed to his foot, and physicians announced that the only way to save his life was to amputate directly below the knee. It was amputated when he was 17. Stoicism inspired him to write this poem. Despite his disability, he survived with one foot intact and led an active life until his death at the age of 53.
- Source: Wikipedia

Those of you who watched Clint Eastwood's movie about Nelson Mandela titled 'Invictus' (the same title as that of the poem) must have heard this in the movie. It is said that Mandela was inspired by it when in incarceration. In the movie they show it when Mandela sends South African Rugby Team to visit the prison he was contained in. Good movie, must watch!

That's all for now, hope you like it and get it's meaning and that it might be useful for you too.

Found a cook inside me!

Today my sister had to go for iftar somewhere and my mother wasn't feeling well, so the kitchen was in my hands. You would think that being a 'mard' (male) I wouldn't have liked it but no, I was like "mwahahaha! all the things I wanted to do" :D

So, I started making drinks first. Four different kind of juice were made:
1. Pineapple-Orange Tang
2. Grape and Strawberry Tang mixed together with Olfruit Cocktail juice
3. Grape, Strawberry, Orange and Lemon Tang mixed together, with extra lemon squeezed into it. Half of this was poured in another bottle and
4. Pomegranate Syrup (not grenadine, could not find it) was added and the bottle was filled with 7 Up.

Then I started making fruit chaat and followed the instructions provided by Furree Katt. Used apples, guavas, apricots, grapes and bananas. Added sugar and pepper,  squeezed lemon and added some orange juice. There we go.

After that I cut potatoes and made French Fries. *sticks tongue out*

The last thing was to make PIZZA! Made three pizzas. Not the Pizza Hut kind of pizza but still a pizza. I used four slices of bread to make one pizza. Here is what I did:
Take four slices of bread, put them in such a way that they form a big square
Put lots of mozzarella cheese in between them to join them.
Make your pizza dressing (I used chicken, mayonnaise, red chilli, green chilli, pepper, oregano, pizza sauce, garlic mayo and more chicken) and heat it for 4 - 5 minutes
Spread it on the base you made earlier
Top it with more mozzarella cheese
Heat it in oven till cheese melts completely

Soon it was time for Iftar and everyone liked all of it :D YAY! I found the cook hidden deep inside of me. I can bake a little too. Also, I make the best omelettes in the entire universe. I am not bragging, okay? I'm just a little too excited

At iftar, bhai (brother) asked Abu (father) if something happened in the city today, the following conversation took place:
Bhai: did something happen at Civic Centre today?
Abu: what?
Bhai: heard there was a protest against the president
Abu: I don't know, I wasn't in the city
Bhai and Me (together): wait! you were home six hours ago
Abu: *shrugs*
Bhai: *still confused* how is it possible?
Me: *laughing like a hyena, falls off the chair*

Well, it ended well with our tummies filled with yummies and I got to do everything my sister didn't let me do.

Also, people start responding for the blogger meet-up! Jaldi jaldi

Keep on smiling and laughing

So Far Away

Never feared for anything
Never shamed but never free
A life to heal the broken heart with all that it could
Lived a life so endlessly
Saw beyond what others see
I tried to heal your broken heart with all that I could

Will you stay?
Will you stay away forever?

How do I live without the ones I love?
Time still turns the pages of the book it's burned
Place and time always on my mind
I have so much to say but you’re so far away

Plans of what our futures hold
Foolish lies of growing old
It seems we’re so invincible
The truth is so cold

A final song, a last request
A perfect chapter laid to rest
Now and then I try to find a place in my mind

Where you can stay
You can stay away forever

How do I live without the ones I love?
Time still turns the pages of the book it's burned
Place and time always on my mind
I have so much to say but you’re so far away

Sleep tight, I'm not afraid
The ones that we love are here with me
Lay away a place for me
Cause as soon as I'm done I'll be on my way
To live eternally

How do I live without the ones I love?
Time still turns the pages of the book it's burned
Place and time always on my mind
And the light you left remains but it’s so hard to stay
When I have so much to say but you're so far away

I love you
You were ready
The pain is strong and urges rise
But I'll see you
When He lets me
Your pain is gone, your hands untied

So far away
And I need you to know
So far away
And I need you to, need you to know

So Far Away - Avenged Sevenfold
